Hollywood Sign
Lori and I took a quick trip to Los Angeles last week. Of course while there I was running around shooting various things, including that great tourist tractor beam the Hollywood Sign. I wanted to find out how close you could get to it these days, since access has become quite restricted over the years. Hiking directly to the sign is not allowed (or at least we were not going to try doing that in the middle of the day), so we drove up through the Hollywood Hills and got as close as we could by car and I shot some photos directly down the hill from the sign on Mulholland Highway near Ledgewood Drive.
Another great vantage point we found is from above Lake Hollywood Park on Canyon Lake Drive near the Lake Hollywood Reservoir.

hiking to the sign is actually quite easy and in most cases you can do it w/o any legal ramifications. Worst case scenario is a $150 fine for tresspassing. (provided you don’t have any spray cans or anything else used to vandalize on you when caught).
I make a hobby of exploring places that are off-limits. I’ve been all around the hollywood sign, there is a pre-recorded anouncement that will sound (if you trip the motion sensor) …it warns you to remain where you are as authorities are on their way to arrest you. -Yes I have visited the sign both at night and in broad daylight. MIddle of the day is actually much much easier to explore off-limits areas. Night time is extremely suspicious (there are many homes in the area).
