Desert to Dream: A Decade of Burning Man Photography
“Desert to Dream: A Decade of Burning Man Photography” is a new book by my friend Barbara Traub which features 10 years of her amazing Burning Man photography. There will be a book launch party at 111 Minna Gallery this Friday, July 14th from 6-9pm and the book is now available for purchase through the publisher Immedium.
Desert to Dream is an unprecedented photographic record of a decade of Burning Man celebrations — from its infancy as a performance art exhibition in the late 80’s to its explosion as a pop culture, community-driven phenomenon today. Photographer Barbara Traub captures the sacred and profane through photos of otherworldly artifacts, structures, and costumes that defy description.
UPDATE 1: Here are some photos I shot at the launch party.
UPDATE 2: Hernan Cortez did his Run DMC Puppet Show at the party. Here are some photos.

Extraordinary images. Thank you for holding them up. I participated in 1998, and am feeling overdue for a 2nd Burn. Ironically, I was only a recent transplant to the Bay Area, then. and my experience was by many accounts that of a “tourist”. In the intervening years, I have befriended many Burners, watched them grow excited with anticipation, build their floats, construct their “brief dreams”, and then hear about the stories afterwards. I wanna go. Perhaps it’s not too late…
