When I was in New York recently, I stayed midtown, so I was a frequent visitor of Penn Station, where I would often take MTA’s faithful 1-2-3 lines uptown and downtown. Of course when I’m riding those trains, I always reminded of one of my all time favorite 1970’s films and ultimate subway movie “The Taking of Pelham One Two Three”, staring Walter Matthau as a New York cop who tries to stop a subway that is hijacked by Robert Shaw.

The 1-2-3 makes me think of that Matthau flick, too. I have the soundtrack for the film and it’s great — heard about the soundtrack via Aquarius Records.

Cheers,

Joe

I was in NYC last week and found this piece of interactive art at the 34th Street station on the N-R-Q-W lines. If you go to the MTA website, you can search for other art installations on the different subway lines. I also saw a “famous hats” tile piece at the 23rd Street station.

I wanted to clarify something- “Pelham 1-2-3″ referred to the time of departure of the train from the originating station (1:23 from Pelham station). The hijacked train was, in fact, a number 6 train, running on the east side.
Nice pix though!
